Vote for My Work and Support a Great Cause

Munira, Ancestress of Radiance
10"x10" mixed media
Private Collection
Today is the first day of the Frito-Lay Black History Month Art Contest, and I've entered a piece from my Ancestress Series:  'Munira,' Ancestress of Radiance.

Here are the contest details:

"LAY'S® Potato Chips and DORITOS® Tortilla Chips are sponsoring an art contest in honor of Black History Month to recognize artists in your community.  Please take time to browse our gallery of artwork and vote on your favorite piece. Frito-Lay will donate $1 to the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) for every vote you make and if you enter your LAY'S® or DORITOS® Bag Code, we will donate another $1 (up to a maximum of $35,000). Each person can vote once per day, so make sure to visit daily between February 1-28 and spread the word to your friends. The artists with the top 5 voted pieces will each win $1,000!"

Of course, it would be great to win the thousand dollars (!), but I've also submitted my artwork to the gallery to support this worthy cause.  Did you know that  60 percent of  students the United Negro College Fund supports are the first in their families to attend college?  And, to close the educational attainment gap between African Americans and the majority population, UNCF helps promising students attend college and graduate.  From its mission statement:  "UNCF envisions a nation where all Americans have equal access to a college education that prepares them for rich intellectual lives, competitive and fulfilling careers, engaged citizenship and service to our nation."
Please join with me in celebrating Black History Month, and helping deserving students attain higher education.
Vote here.

Thanks so much!

Hi Michelle! What an evocative piece, and surely a compelling exhibition in which to participate. Thanks for stopping by Brush and Baren earlier this week so I could have the opportunity to "meet" you and your work.
