The Masters Series: Art Quilts
Taking a moment for visual inspiration in the midst of teaching summer camps, I borrowed this book from the library (along with Elmo's Ducky Day, How to Draw Monster Cartoons, and Frida Kahlo, the Paintings--which tells you how diverse my camps are!): Masters Art Quilts, Major Works by Leading Artists, by Martha Sielman.
There aren't enough adjectives to describe this book. Beautiful, inspiring, incredible and wow-inducing are just a beginning.
Here are a few images which captured my interest. The first, by Hollis Chatelain, is entitled School: It's Never Too Late to Learn, done in cotton fabrics, wool batting, fiber-reactive dyes, hand dye-painted, machine quilted.
Next, is a beautiful work by Eszter Bornemisza, called Course of Time, which is constructed with whole-cloth cotton, linen, silk, hot-cut synthetics, wax-resist painted, dyed, frayed, machine appliqued and quilted fabrics.
Caryl Bryer Fallert's Feather Study #10 is just one of a series of jaw-dr
oppingly gorgeous creations. She says, "It is my hope they will lift the spirits and delight the eyes of those who see them." They definitely do that for me!
And, the only artist whose work I'd seen before, Carolyn L. Mazloomi (thanks to fellow blogger, Sonji Hunt), has ten images incl
uded. Her Endless Journey is my favorite.
Masters Art Quilts is a book to savor, and to add to your collection of visual inspiration, no matter your medium of choice.
