Visual Delights: Art Publications

'Thought I'd share some of the publications I either subscribe to, or have discovered while artventuring on the web. The art and information they contain are visual delights, and I always learn something while being wowed by the creativity of the featured artists.

The Artful Home catalog and website
"The Guild is the leading source for artist-made home décor products shipped direct from artists' studios to customers' homes nationwide. Since 1985, The Guild has helped artists throughout North America market and sell their work. Today, The Guild represents more than 1,200 top artists working in media from glass, sculpture, and prints to furniture, lighting, and jewelry. Guild Sourcebooks have resulted in thousands of new art commissions for public and private spaces, while The Artful Home catalogs and website offer consumers more than 12,000 works of original art for the home, all made by hand and shipped direct from our artists' studios."

American Style magazine
"Launched in 1995, the mission of American Style magazine is to inform craft enthusiasts and art collectors about the significance of handmade objects of art. American Style magazine provides art lovers with valuable tips on decorating, interior design, display and lighting ideas for everything from designer jewelry and art glass to collectible teapots, art furniture and sculptural ceramics. More than 250 arts festivals, gallery exhibitions and museum events are listed in the Datebook section of each issue."

The Crafts Report magazine
"The Crafts Report, established in 1975, is a monthly business magazine for the crafts professional. The mission of the Crafts Report is to inform, instruct and inspire both the beginning and the established professional craftsperson and crafts retailer by providing them with how-to articles on all facets of crafts business management and related topics, relevant industry news, as well as information on current issues and trends, a forum for exchanging ideas and concerns, and encouragement and recognition."

Ornament Magazine
"Our vision is rich in contemporary, ethnographic and ancient history, anthropology and archaeology. We believe that we can help sustain a healthy and compassionate society when we know more about our and other cultures. As a respected international resource for over thirty years, Ornament encompasses the world....Knowledge shapes the present and future. We renew our bonds both with the recent past and antiquity, revealing or tracing historical roots and customs, aesthetics, material and technical processes. Ornament exists to educate and inform."
Ornament has been a favorite visual treat of mine for years, which started back when I was designing jewelry. I will often sneak a peak at the current issue at Borders or Barnes & Noble.

In the season of gift-giving, supporting the work of artists and craftspeople, and buying handmade objects is good for you, for them, and for the planet.
