Happy Halloween!

What says Halloween more than kids and monsters? As I was artventuring around the Internet recently, I found the perfect combination for today.

Artist Dave DeVries, of West Orange, NJ had a great idea which began when his 7-year old niece drew a monster she feared in his sketchbook. He turned her drawing into a brilliantly colored three dimensional painting, which made her feel better. DeVries has done this with numerous other kids--getting them to draw their anxieties and translating them to paintings. He's put a collection on his website: The Monster Engine, and in a book by the same name, subtitled, 'An Experiment with Children's Art'. DeVries also does school lectures and a traveling gallery show.

Enjoy these examples of the original kids' art and Dave's paintings. Have a spook-tacular day!
